Step into a world where legendary heroes are brought to life through playful competition, physical comedy, and fast-paced storytelling! In #TallTales, two classmates—logical Emma and imaginative Zoe—bring American folklore to life with larger-than-life flair. From the outlandish feats of Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill to the whirlwind exploits of Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind, their tall tale retellings spark laughs, debates, and a high-energy storytelling showdown.
But as Emma and Zoe wrestle with tornadoes and the truth, they discover that stories aren’t always what they seem—and that even the tallest tale can carry a deeper truth. With quick wit and heart, #TallTales playfully blurs the line between fact and fiction, inviting young audiences to explore creativity, critical thinking, and media literacy in a world filled with stories.
#Tall Tales is an exciting, modern twist on classic Tall Tales designed to captivate K–5 audiences and inspire rich post performance discussions. Join us for an unforgettable performance where every challenge grows taller with every retelling!

Workshops
Bring the magic of the stage directly into your classroom!
Vault Theatre also offers a pre and post workshop that enhances the artistic experience students receive in connection with seeing #TallTales.
Prior to seeing the show, teaching artists will use active games and exercises to create a connection between the learning in the classroom to the themes in the performance. A teaching artist will return to the classroom after students have seen the show, to activate students’ own ideas in conjunction with the performance! Connecting to ELA curriculum, this pre and post workshop will encourage students to explore bringing #TallTales from page to stage directly in their classrooms!
While Vault Theatre can deliver one workshop either before or after, this program is best experienced with both a pre and post workshop bookending the experience at the theatre.

Blue Box Theatre Company presents EARNEST by Oscar Wilde
This event is hosted by an independent group. Vault Theatre is not affiliated with their production.
Jack resides in the country with Cecily, his imaginative and hopelessly romantic young ward, and often travels to visit his ill brother, Ernest, in the city. Algernon can’t attend that potluck you invited him to, because he must visit his sick friend, Bunbury, in the county. But here’s the catch: neither Ernest or Bunbury actually exist. The pair of men are using fake personas in order to have a perpetual excuse, fit for any occasion.
The lies begin to unravel when Jack intends to marry Gwendolen, a self assured woman with an intimidating mother. Algernon then falls deeply in love with Cecily. Both men become “Earnest” to leave their real identities behind - and cue the laugh track.
Blue Box Theatre Company is proud to present our take on the classic Oscar Wilde play, The Importance of Being Earnest in the form of a 90’s sitcom! The show uses the original script with a few setting-specific cuts to put our production in 90’s North Carolina. These well-known characters will be larger than life, much like some of the personalities from iconic sitcoms.
Come be a part of our live studio audience at Vault Theatre Studios in Durham, September 19th-21st and September 26th-28th.
